HUSKY and Medicaid eligibility hearings

The Legislative Program Review and Investigations committee will hold a committee meeting on the Medicaid eligibility determination process on Thursday, September 23, 2004 at 10:00 AM at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford in Room 2D. Community organizations are encouraged to provide input on how to improve the application process at the following public hearings:

Hamden: Thursday, September 30, 2004, 5:00 PM– 8:00 PM, Mitchell Public Library, Thornton Wilder Hall, 2901 Dixwell Avenue

These are opportunities to inform the legislature about families’ experiences with the eligibility determination process in different communities.

Standards for timeliness and accuracy of determination decisions

DSS eligibility processes and systems: intake; collecting and verifying eligibility information; determining eligibility, and renewals

DSS management of eligibility determinations including volume of applications, caseloads, and staff resource allocation

Presumptive, continuous and guaranteed eligibility – whether recent changes affect the eligibility determination of certain populations

Delays in processing: causes and remedies
