| Five Bills would Raise Rates |
Five separate bills have been approved by two
committees of the Connecticut General
Assembly and all five would raise HUSKY dental
reimbursement rates to the 70th percentile of
dentists' fees,
as defined by the National Dental Advisory
Service Comprehensive Fee Report.
That's good news, but we need to keep up the
fight (see Feature Article to the right and
"What's Next" below).

language.
SB 1 and HB 7069 were approved by the Public
Health Committee.
Thanks to Co-Chairs Representative

All five bills will be reviewed by the
Appropriations Committee for inclusion in
next year's State budget.
If
included, there
will likely be an end-of-session negotiation
between the Governor and the General Assembly
on the budget in late May and very early
June.
Our next steps will be to gain the support of
the Appropriations Committee and of the
leadership of the General Assembly to ensure
inclusion in the budget and for their support
in the ultimate budget negotiations.
In addition we will need to gain the
Governor's support. See the feature article
(above right) for details.
Look for the next COHI Alert, early in
the upcoming week, for more details.

Governor's Budget Office Fighting to Block
HUSKY Dental Increase
Both the Governor's Budget Chief, Robert
Genuario, & DSS Commissioner Michael
Starkowski, have spoken publicly against
raising HUSKY dental reimbursement rates
enough so that a significant number of HUSKY
children get the help they need. They
cite the cost of new rates,
which have been frozen since 1993.
Now is the time to call or e-mail the
Governor.
Enough is enough, will
we have to see a death of a child due to this
neglect, as recently happened in Maryland,
before the State acts?
Call or e-mail NOW and ask her
to end the suffering and raise the rates !
